I know this is out of order with the whole “arriving in Kansas” bit, but as we were trying to put our bed together last night, we discovered that the middle support beam, the one that carries probably most of the weight, is missing. Gone. Vanished.
As we were unloading the truck, I remember removing it from whatever pile of stuff it was in and setting it aside or handing it to someone to take in. So, I know it made it to Kansas. After that, everything is a mystery. An enigma.
Or at least really annoying. Because we can’t really get a lot done (easily) with our bedroom until the bed is put together, because that gives us a platform to work off of: boxes can be put there to create walking space (desperately needed in that room), clothes can be folded on it, and heck, at the end of the day, we could even sleep on it.
But now, all we have is a useless shell of a bed frame that couldn’t hold me and my mattresses up if it wanted to, let alone the two of us.
We tore the apartment apart looking for it last night. Twice. Every conceivable space, and even some inconceivable ones (e.g., in the bathtub) were thoroughly examined. Some of them three times. Nothing.
And at this point, the only space left in the house that could house a queen-sized mattress is the kids’ room. So, I’m sleeping in the kids’ room.
The good news is that Ikea can ship us the $10 part for only around $16 to $18, taking 7 to 14 days to reach us.
I just hope the kids don’t kick us out of their room before it shows up.

[...] It’s here! Our missing support beam is finally here! It showed up this past Friday, I believe. The beam is now fully installed, the mattresses returned to their proper place: resting firmly on our bed frame, in our bedroom. So, naturally, do you know what I’m looking forward to? [...]
