The camera’s been around for a while now. Most of us are fairly familiar with at least one kind or another, and have used them to capture both trivial and momentous occasions in our lives. We’ve seen pictures that define a feeling, a moment, an era. They have been used to entertain, to condemn, to liberate, and to illustrate.
With cameras so commonplace these days (do you regularly carry one in your pocket yet? Check your cellphone), I have to wonder if they have affected our behavior at all? How many people out there dream of catching something amazing that they can use to be the next starlet of Flickr, YouTube, America’s Funniest Videos?
Thanks to a post by John over at Photodoto, I became aware of a little video clip that the folks over at This American Life have put together that addresses this question. It’s really well done, a short, childhood narrative related in such a way it borders on suspenseful terror.
Well, at least I thought it did.
